maida vale

Stuart Forbes have designed a contemporary extension to this grade II listed property. A new wing on the side of the building contains a new kitchen on the first floor and living space on the ground floor. The basement will contain a gym and cinema room.

Located within the City of Westminster, Maida Vale marks the western edge of the John’s Wood Conservation Area. The property dates circa 1840, and its design is based upon the classical villa but adapted to comprise two semi-detached properties. The property is Grade II listed.  The property history shows a considerable number of renovations with the last works carried out in 2010. We were employed by the new owners in 2013 to review the overall layout of the house with the aim to increase its overall size with the addition of a two level side extension and a new one level basement space below the garden.

The practice worked closely with Westminster council planning and conservation departments to develop an approach which would successfully integrate the client brief. Planning permission was granted in 2016 and we are currently progressing work on site in view to finish within an 18 months programme.
